"Internet of things" is gradually gaining the chances of a beautiful concept to become a reality. The next step in this direction has recently made the company GainSpan, introducing the industry's first wireless chipsets, supports both IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and IEEE 802.15.4 ZigBee.
In the configuration of single-chip system, designated GS2000, includes blocks PHY / MAC 802.11b/g/n and 802.15.4, two cores ARM Cortex-M3 and the built-in memory, which is enough for the amount of the network stack and services. GS2000 supports the IPv4/IPv6 TCP / UDP, and for the additional network services - DHCP, DNS, clients and servers, HTTP, HTTPS, XML parser, etc. Supports Wi-Fi and ZigBee provides the opportunity not only to use the high-speed networks and the prevalence of Wi-Fi, but also connect to them sensors and other devices with ZigBee.
According to the manufacturer, the appearance GS2000 will accelerate the development and production of consumer electronic devices with connection to the home network. GS2000 versatility also makes it possible to simplify the creation of different variants of the same device: with only ZigBee, Wi-Fi only or two networks at once. Examples of GS2000 attributed fitness equipment, medical devices, "smart" meters, audio-visual equipment, home automation tools.
Availability for the start of study samples GainSpan GS2000 named this month. Serial deliveries will begin later this year.
